What do we do at Left Turn, who have we been working with lately, and what is on the horizon in 26/27?

Updated: Jul 29

2026/27 is already shaping up to be a big year at Left Turn, with new offerings and new ways for us to help you, your team, your organisation, and most of all your clients. Please have a look at who we have been working with lately with training and support:

  1. Solution Focused Approaches workshop - Face to Face

Centacare YourLINC workshop 2 of 4, August 2025

Our workshops can help you and your teams to become more efficient and more client-centred by using the Solution Focused approach and Single Session Thinking. We can create workshops tailored to your needs, for any size team, and from half a day to 3 days. Over the last 2 years we have provided training for the following organisations:

  • Summit Health Medicare walk-in Mental Health Centre (a total of 8 days of training for both clinical and lived-experience staff

  • Summit Health Carefinder services

  • Summit Health Connect Care counselling service

  • Adelaide University student counselling service

  • Sonder/headspace Marion

  • Centacare LINK mental health support service

  • Murray Bridge Community Mental Health Service

  • Berri Mental Health Short Stay Inpatient Unit

  • Open Arms Counselling Service (veterans and their families)

Next month we will also be providing training for 2 Medicare Kids Mental Health clinics in Adelaide.

  1. Solution Focused Approaches - online

Left Turn can provide online workshop in the Solution Focused Approach for teams who are outside of Adelaide and can't afford transport me to you. All of our workshops are interactive and fun, so you don't have to worry about "zoom fatigue". If you are an individual looking for professional development, or a team that needs online training, then join us for the next workshops, or contact us and we can plan a workshop specifically for your team.

  1. Balance Groups

Ben and David recently took their Balance Group to Sonder Marion

Balance Groups are designed to help people and teams who work in stressful and emotionally-laden roles. Whether you work in healthcare, emergency services, education, or social services, Balance Groups can help to:

  • reduce burnout

  • reduce compassion fatigue

  • reduce vicarious trauma

  • build compassionate and cohesive teams

  • reduce absenteeism and presenteeism

  • increase emotional literacy

  • increase productivity

We can come to you (preferred) but can also offer Balance Groups online.

You can find out more about Balance Groups here and then please contact us for a no-obligation chat about how Balance Groups can help you and your team.

  1. Clinical Supervision

David currently has 8 clinicians from across Australia who see him on a regular or semi-regular basis, but there is always room for 1 more! David can be a valuable resource with his extensive experience in acute/emergency mental health, SFBT, Single Session Thinking, tertiary education, training, and general counselling.

Clinical Supervision (and mentoring) can be offered online, in Hallett Cove, or at a mutually convenient location. Please contact us for a chat and to discuss costs.

  1. Counselling and Coaching

At Left Turn we DO NOT think about long-term "therapy", we believe complicated problems do not necessarily require long-term support. Our aim is to simply get you pointed and then moving in the right direction, and then step out of the way.

We combine the following 3 approaches in our counselling and coaching:

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy

  • No Bullshit Therapy

  • Single Session Thinking

Individual sessions can be offered online, in Hallett Cove, or at a mutually convenient location. We do not require a referral or Mental Health Care Plan, and our cost will be very similar to what you would pay as a gap to Medicare. Please contact us for a chat and to discuss costs (there are various options and costs).

  1. Interviews, publications and conference presentations

Every now and then I find myself involved in a project where I get to dive deeper into the Solution Focused approach, and I end up writing or talking about it somewhere. You can find links to most of my writing and presentations here. The last couple of years has been pretty interesting, so check some of these more recent papers and interviews:

  • "Eve Lipchik's Unique Contribution to the Development and Practice of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy" Journal of Systemic Therapies, 45(2) - Jun 2026 - I had the honour of being invited to co-author a paper to celebrate the lifetime achievements of Eve Lipchick in Solution-Focused and Family Therapy. (This paper currently sits behind a paywall, so if you don't have access you can contact me for a copy of the final draft)

EDITED 29/7/26 - the JST has offered free access to this paper for the next 2 weeks - you can download it here

  • "SFBT Beginnings - from the people who were there" This was one of my greatest ever honours to meet and interview some of the original pioneers of SFBT.

  • Case Study - Maggie's Story Journal of Solution Focused Practices, 8(2) - Oct 2024 - working with Maggie was one of the most amazing clinical experiences that I have ever had. Maggie and her mum Kate Kowalski (one of the early pioneers of SFBT) graciously joined me to write this paper for the Journal of Solution Focused Practices.

And what's next:

  • 2026 Australasian Solution Focused Association Conference - I'll be involved in 2 presentations:

#1 - I will be hosting a live interview with Michael Durrant and Kate Kowalski where we will talk about the birth and growth of Solution Focused approach in Australasia

#2 - I will be delivering a workshop on Single Session Therapy, which will include information about my current clinical role at the Mt. Barker Medicare Mental Health Centre.
